DEVIN

While growing up, I tried many sports like golf, squash and wrestling. Eventually, I found a love of movement in recreational gymnastics. From 2009 - 2014, I started training with a community of people who practiced Martial Art Tricking. Around this time, I also worked as a junior-level gymnastic/trampoline coach for seven years.

At the end of 2018, I was encouraged by friends to try pole dancing. I entered the expert category in an amateur pole competition (NZAPP) in 2020 and ended up winning. My performance impressed the organiser of the competition so much that they changed the rules of entry to their semi-pro competition, called Pole Legends, and invited me to compete the very next night. I then went back to compete at Pole Legends in 2022 and took away 2nd place.

2022 ended with a shoulder injury that forced me to stop pole dancing for a couple of years. So I decided to study with the Australian College of Optical Dispensing (ACOD) to become a Dispensing Optician. I have since finished my studies and am in the process of becoming a registered Dispensing Optician.

It goes without saying that I met Bailee through pole dancing and, similar to Bailee, picked up bo staff spinning to help recover from my injury.  My current obsession is working out how to add flips, balances, and other tricks to my fire performances.

I love performing with staff, dragon staff, and palm torches.
